The Future of Autonomous Electric Vehicles in the UK

Image
For over a century, the sound of the internal combustion engine has provided the score for our roads. The United Kingdom is approaching a new era of transportation using electric power and guided by intelligent systems. The hybridisation of autonomous vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) has transitioned from a far-fetched science fiction engagement. This evolution represents a tangible future that will drive changes to our society, economy, and environment. The fusion of green energy and artificial intelligence is preparing the ground for the biggest transport revolution in generations, and the UK is ready to lead the charge. Accelerating Towards Innovation The journey towards this future is accelerating. Various components are coming together across the country. Public policy, such as the 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel car sales, and innovation in the private sector, are making it viable. Today's electric vehicles (EVs) have a good enough range for most people's daily commu...

The Role of Microgrids in Enhancing Energy Resilience

Image
In the UK, the move to a green energy future has revolved around large-scale approaches such as offshore wind generation and new nuclear power. While these are relevant today, there is escalating interest in an alternative and more localised energy approach, which is microgrids. Microgrids are a very effective and more resilient way of providing an aspect of energy resilience, and offer assurance to individuals and businesses with respect to their ongoing power supply in the extremely low likelihood of a grid failure occurring.  Microgrids are a small-scale, self-contained energy system, with the capability to not be connected or reliant upon the National Grid. This is a smart and modern approach to power that may particularly thrive through the current climate of uncertainty and increase in energy demand.  What is a Microgrid?  A microgrid is simply defined as a local energy grid that includes local energy sources , local storage, and a defined boundary. A microgrid can...
